City Commissioner Debra Placko launches new scholarship program for Tamarac students

Tamarac, Fla. (March 15, 2021) – Debra Placko, the City of Tamarac’s District 4 Commissioner, created a new scholarship program named in honor of the late Diane Glasser, a former Tamarac City Commissioner who also served Broward County and built a reputation as an exemplary community leader and public servant during her three decade career.

Through the Diane Glasser Memorial Scholarship Program, Placko is offering two $2,500 scholarships to students residing in the City of Tamarac, in District 4. Recipients can use scholarships for educational expenses at a college, university or vocational school.

“Diane Glasser was such a strong proponent of education. I can’t think of a better way to honor her legacy than to offer scholarships to Tamarac students who have achieved academic success and demonstrated a commitment to civic involvement,” said Placko. “I am hopeful that these scholarships will make a difference in the lives of the recipients as they work to achieve their dreams.”

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have resided in Tamarac for a least one year, and currently live in District 4; provide a school transcript verifying a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale; show verified proof of community service in Broward County; give proof of registration in an accredited associate degree, bachelor’s degree or vocational program for Summer or Fall 2021, or graduating high school seniors may provide a letter of acceptance. Applicants need two letters of recommendation, including one letter from a current or former teacher. They must also submit an original 500-word essay highlighting their educational aspirations, future goals, and why they believe public service is important.
