Tamarac Commissioner Elvin Villalobos sues Homeowner Association, threatens to sue Commissioner

Embattled Tamarac Commissioner Elvin Villalobos sued THE LANDINGS ON CYPRESS GREENS HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION for damages in excess of $30,000, according to Broward County Court records. The lawsuit, outlined in case number CACE22010831, shows that Villalobos attempted to purchase a home located at 6071 N.W. 92nd Avenue, Tamarac, FL 33321, which is outside of his commission district.

Villalobos was represented in the suit by Attorney Steven Katz, who was fired from the Bermuda Club HOA and who employed Mayor Michelle Gomez last year, city records show. Online reviews on both Villalobos and Katz are damning. One review says this of Katz and his firm: “This lawyer works extremely poorly, he does not receive reports, he does not respond to emails, and he is the only person in charge of the Hammocks community; his employees have almost no information about him! Really disappointing.”

Villalobos’ close ties to Katz are also demonstrated in a campaign donation made by Katz to Villalobos. Villalobos posts glowing reviews of Katz online: “The only HOA attorney I rely on, thank you Steve and associates.”

The lawsuit between the Homeowners Association and Villalobos asserts that the HOA refused to approve Villalobos’ application for residency, which clearly aggravated Villalobos. The case was dismissed, and court records reflect that Villalobos had to bear his own costs and attorneys’ fees incurred in the case.

Recently, Villalobos threatened to sue Commissioner Marlon Bolton for spreading ‘misinformation and disinformation online,’ Bolton denies those claims. But, Villalobos himself told a room of Kings Point residents that the stories on Tamarac Post are “partly” true but should be taken with ‘a grain of salt.’ While Villalobos did not elaborate on which parts of the articles he thinks are true or false, we know that our libel-proof articles have clearly hit a nerve.

Commissioner Bolton says he welcomes a lawsuit from Villalobos: “Elvin has a lot of explaining to do, and I can’t wait to have him deposed so Tamarac residents finally realize he is nothing but a con artist, a fraud, and a moral hazard.”

Tamarac Post reported that Villalobos is being sued by American Express; the suit is outlined on the Broward Clerk of Court Website under case number COWE24049012.

Tamarac Post reported that Elvin Villalobos accepted alcoholic beverages from a lobbyist during a dinner meeting in Washington, D.C.; the Broward Inspector General report named Villalobos as the only commissioner who admittedly drank alcohol during the dinner. The public can access the report from the Tamarac City Clerk’s office by calling (954) 597-3504.

Tamarac Post reported that Elvin Villalobos confirmed he is under investigation and said he wanted a Tesla; watch the Commission meeting video at (https://Tamarac.org/tv) or click here.

Tamarac Post reported that Elvin Villalobos is facing criticism for misusing taxpayer funds; the receipts for the fans distributed by Villalobos, which serve no real public purpose, can be accessed by calling the Tamarac City Clerk’s office at (954) 597-3504.

Villalobos should not forget that he endorsed a failed Congressional candidate against Sheila Cherfils McCormick; the candidate finished last.

“Villalobos should focus on paying his bills, rather than wasting his money to deflect. Bring it on!” Bolton said.
