Tamarac Commissioner Elvin Villalobos to answer Elections Division Investigation

The “lawbreaker in chief” is at it again, boldly breaking election laws. Embattled Commissioner Elvin Villalobos has been reportedly advertising his campaign on the Nextdoor app, but a spokesperson for Nextdoor says that’s illegal.

According to Nextdoor’s policy, “The mission of Nextdoor is to empower neighborhoods to build stronger local communities, and we will accomplish that by creating trusted connections between neighbors. We’ve taken a stringent approach to political ads and have banned them from the platform.” CEO Sarah Friar stated in an unrelated post, “In the case of ads, we just feel that we don’t want to be policing what’s real, what’s perhaps disinformation or misinformation. In terms of ads on the platform, which is how we monetize, we really try to make sure those ads have high utility and are really endemic to what’s local.”

This is not the first time Villalobos has found himself at the center of controversy. Recently, Villalobos confessed to being under investigation for directing Tamarac staff to purchase an electric vehicle valued at more than $32,000 for his use. Records show the vehicle was purchased for Villalobos, and investigative photos show the vehicle parked at Villalobos’ home and office.

Villalobos requested the car because he no longer receives a $700 car allowance. When Villalobos said he would opt out of the controversial car allowance, residents applauded, some calling him a hero. However, it was a “bait and switch.” Villalobos quickly requested a car, asking City Staff in a message, “Can I sign for my car tomorrow?”

The many controversies surrounding Villalobos have sparked a public outcry, with some residents calling for him to resign.

The embattled Commissioner will now have to explain to the elections commission how he placed those ads and whether he masqueraded them as a real estate agent. If he did, he would also likely face sanctions from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the body that polices realtors.

This latest debacle once again proves that Elvin Villalobos has no integrity and cannot be trusted.

This is a developing story.
