Vice Mayor Morey Wright Advocates for Preserving Glades Golf Course and Prioritizing Community’s Quality of Life

Tamarac Vice Mayor Morey Wright Jr. is leading the charge against proposals to develop the Glades Golf Course, a beloved green space in the heart of the city of Tamarac. The golf course, which has been a staple of the community since 1972, is facing potential transformation, with city officials considering either improving the course or monetizing it to generate revenue.

Vice Mayor Wright is adamant that the golf course should be improved and maintained as is, prioritizing the community’s quality of life over potential development. “The people deserve their peace,” Wright emphasized to residents during his well-attended district meeting. “Green spaces like the Glades Golf Course are essential for our community’s well-being and character, I can’t say more but you know I’m a champion for green spaces”

Wright’s commitment to preserving green spaces is nothing new. Since his election to the Tamarac City Commission in November 2022, he has consistently advocated for responsible development and environmental stewardship. He notably voted against a proposal for 335 homes in the woodlands, citing concerns about traffic and air quality.

Wright’s dedication to green spaces is rooted in his understanding of their numerous benefits. “Green spaces are not just aesthetically pleasing; they also provide essential ecosystem services, mitigate the urban heat island effect, and offer opportunities for recreation and relaxation,” Wright explained in a Commission meeting. “In addition, they contribute to our city’s unique character and sense of community.”

The proposed development of the Glades Golf Course has sparked a heated debate among city officials and residents. While a few see potential for growth and revenue, an overwhelming majority of the community share Wright’s concerns about the impact on quality of life. The golf course is cherished for its natural beauty and challenging design, making it a popular destination for golfers and nature enthusiasts alike.

Vice Mayor Wright’s leadership on this issue is a testament to his commitment to serving the community. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University with two Master’s degrees, Wright brings a wealth of knowledge and common-sense values to the city commission. As the son of an Air Force Veteran, Wright is dedicated to public service and community engagement.

Tamarac Vice Mayor Morey Wright Jr. is a champion for green spaces and community well-being. His advocacy for preserving the Glades Golf Course and responsible development sets an excellent example for other cities to follow. As our communities continue to grow and evolve, it is crucial to prioritize green spaces and the many benefits they provide. Adding Density is not always the answer.
